SOUTHEAST WARREN COMMUNITY SCHOOL
NOVEMBER 23, 2002
The Southeast Warren Board of Education met in special session
November 23, 2002 in the media center of the junior/senior high
attendance center. President Smith called the meeting to order
at 9:00 a.m. The following board members were present: John Burrell,
Tom Farley, and Debbie Miller. Superintendent Garton and Pauline
Ripperger, Secretary were also in attendance. Director Greg Davis
AGENDA: Motion by Farley, seconded by Miller to approve the agenda.
CONSIDERATION OF AN EXTENDED CONTRACT FOR AN EMPLOYEE: A considerable
length of time was spent in the discussion of the salary description
of article nine of the continuing contract with a beginning teacher.
At issue was the assigned step on the salary schedule. Apprehension
was expressed that the placement could result in another grievance.
Motion by Farley, seconded by Burrell, to approve the contract
with the exception of the step on the salary schedule, returning
the salary to Step 1.
The discussion of the merits of this change was deliberated extensively.
In conclusion, Farley withdrew his motion and Burrell retracted
Motion by Miller, seconded by Farley to approve the contract as
written, with additional language to article seven of the continuing
contract to read: The board recognizes this specific position is
subject to arbitration expected February 15, 2003. Ayes: 4.
The regular board meeting of December 9th was rescheduled to December
10th, at 7 p.m., in the library of the Milo elementary building,
due to a conflict with the Elementary Winter Concert.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:55 a.m.
