The Southeast Warren Board of Education met in special session November 23, 2002 in the media center of the junior/senior high attendance center. President Smith called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. The following board members were present: John Burrell, Tom Farley, and Debbie Miller. Superintendent Garton and Pauline Ripperger, Secretary were also in attendance. Director Greg Davis was absent.

AGENDA: Motion by Farley, seconded by Miller to approve the agenda. Ayes: 4

CONSIDERATION OF AN EXTENDED CONTRACT FOR AN EMPLOYEE: A considerable length of time was spent in the discussion of the salary description of article nine of the continuing contract with a beginning teacher. At issue was the assigned step on the salary schedule. Apprehension was expressed that the placement could result in another grievance.

Motion by Farley, seconded by Burrell, to approve the contract with the exception of the step on the salary schedule, returning the salary to Step 1.

The discussion of the merits of this change was deliberated extensively. In conclusion, Farley withdrew his motion and Burrell retracted the second.

Motion by Miller, seconded by Farley to approve the contract as written, with additional language to article seven of the continuing contract to read: The board recognizes this specific position is subject to arbitration expected February 15, 2003. Ayes: 4.

The regular board meeting of December 9th was rescheduled to December 10th, at 7 p.m., in the library of the Milo elementary building, due to a conflict with the Elementary Winter Concert.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:55 a.m.
